Level III (Medical Interpreting)

Palomar Health offers a variety of pre-health internships to help students interested in this field prepare for their future. Their Medical Interpreting Internship will give fluent Spanish speakers the opportunity to provide important services within a hospital where they can facilitate safe, customer-centered communication among staff, visitors, and patients.

Internship Summary

The Pathmaker Internship Medical Interpreting (MI) programme is for individuals fluent in Spanish. Interns who are accepted into the programme and have indicated they’re bilingual in Spanish will be contacted by the interpreting team to see if they might want to pursue becoming an interpreter.

When potential interpreter candidates express interest in the position, they will have to take a Spanish Language Proficiency Assessment. Afterwards, they will attend a 32-hour training, which is provided by a Certified Healthcare Interpreter according to legal and ethical standards as well as the mechanics of performing as an interpreter.
